How Long Is the Isuzu D-MAX and MU-X Warranty in New Zealand?
If you're buying a new ute or SUV, the warranty is an important part of understanding what ownership looks like after you drive away.
In New Zealand, the Isuzu D-MAX and MU-X come with a 3-year/100,000km factory warranty, with Isuzu's current 3 + 3 Warranty Offer providing eligible new D-MAX and MU-X vehicles with up to 6 years/150,000km of warranty coverage, whichever comes first.
The additional three years/50,000km of coverage is subject to the vehicle meeting Isuzu Utes New Zealand's maintenance requirements throughout the warranty period.
How long is the Isuzu warranty?
The standard Isuzu new vehicle warranty is 3 years or 100,000km, whichever comes first.
Under the current 3 + 3 Warranty Offer, eligible new D-MAX and MU-X vehicles can receive an additional 3 years or 50,000km, taking the total warranty coverage to:
Up to 6 years or 150,000km, whichever comes first.
The current offer applies to eligible new MU-X or new-look D-MAX vehicles purchased from July 2024 onwards, while the offer lasts. Terms and eligibility requirements apply.
What is the Isuzu 3 + 3 Warranty Offer?
The 3 + 3 Warranty Offer extends the standard Isuzu warranty by another three years/50,000km for eligible vehicles.
In simple terms:
First 3 years:
3 years/100,000km standard factory warranty
Additional 3 years:
3 years/50,000km additional warranty coverage
Total:
Up to 6 years/150,000km
The time and kilometre limits are not added together independently. The overall warranty ends when the vehicle reaches either 6 years or 150,000km, whichever happens first.
What do I need to do to get the additional 3 years?
The additional 3 years/50,000km of warranty coverage is subject to ongoing maintenance.
To remain eligible, your D-MAX or MU-X must receive continuous preventative maintenance and inspections from Years 1 to 6, in accordance with Isuzu Utes New Zealand's recommended maintenance schedule.
The required work must be completed by qualified Isuzu Technicians within the authorised Isuzu Dealer or Service Agent network, using Genuine Isuzu Parts.
This means keeping up with the recommended servicing isn't just about maintaining your vehicle — it's also part of meeting the requirements for the additional warranty coverage.
Does servicing have to be done by Isuzu?
For the additional 3 years/50,000km warranty offered under the 3 + 3 Warranty Offer, the required preventative maintenance and inspections must be carried out by qualified Isuzu Technicians within the Authorised Isuzu Dealer or Service Agent network, using Genuine Isuzu Parts.
Isuzu also recommends retaining maintenance records and receipts. The warranty booklet notes that damage caused by lack of maintenance isn't covered under the warranty, so keeping records of servicing can be important.
What does the Isuzu warranty cover?
The new vehicle warranty covers repairs to correct malfunctions occurring during the applicable warranty period that result from defects in material or workmanship under normal use and operation in New Zealand.
Where a warrantable repair is required, Isuzu's warranty booklet states that repairs to covered parts and labour are carried out at no charge, subject to the warranty terms and conditions.
The warranty doesn't cover everything that can happen to a vehicle. For example, the warranty booklet identifies exclusions relating to things such as damage caused by overloading, improper body conversions or modifications, and certain parts or equipment not supplied or approved by Isuzu Utes New Zealand.
It's therefore important to check the full warranty terms for the specific circumstances of any repair.
Does the Isuzu warranty transfer to a new owner?
Yes.
The 3 + 3 Warranty Offer applies to the vehicle, rather than being tied solely to the original owner.
If you sell your D-MAX or MU-X while it is still within the warranty period, the remaining warranty can transfer to the new owner, subject to the warranty's terms and eligibility requirements.
This can also be relevant when buying a used D-MAX or MU-X that still has remaining warranty coverage.
Does the warranty include roadside assistance?
Yes.
Under the 3 + 3 Warranty Offer, Isuzu Roadside Assistance is provided for the length of the warranty period.
This means eligible vehicles covered by the full 3 + 3 warranty can have roadside assistance available for up to six years, subject to the applicable terms.
Isuzu's current information describes its roadside assistance as a 24-hour service, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
What happens after the Isuzu warranty expires?
Once your new vehicle warranty has expired, you can still continue to have your D-MAX or MU-X serviced through the Isuzu network.
Isuzu also offers an Extended Warranty that can be purchased to provide additional cover beyond the original new vehicle warranty period.
There are also Isuzu Assurance Service Plans available for vehicles that are over three years old or have travelled more than 100,000km. These plans allow owners to pre-purchase servicing at a set price.
What is the difference between an Isuzu warranty and a service plan?
They're two different things.
Warranty:
Provides cover for eligible repairs relating to defects in material or workmanship, subject to the warranty terms and conditions.
Service Plan:
Covers specified scheduled servicing at a set price. Isuzu's Service Plans allow owners to pre-purchase a set number of services, helping make future servicing costs more predictable.
For vehicles covered by the 3 + 3 Warranty Offer, maintaining the required servicing and inspections is also important for eligibility for the additional three years/50,000km warranty coverage.
Is the Isuzu warranty good for high-use vehicles?
If you use your vehicle regularly for work, travelling or towing, understanding the warranty conditions is particularly important.
The warranty provides coverage subject to its terms, but regular maintenance remains an important part of vehicle ownership. Isuzu's warranty requirements specify continuous preventative maintenance and inspections throughout Years 1 to 6 for eligibility for the additional warranty coverage.
It's worth keeping your service schedule up to date and retaining your maintenance records, particularly if your D-MAX or MU-X is working hard or travelling high kilometres.
Isuzu Warranty FAQs
The key thing to remember is simple: new D-MAX and MU-X vehicles have a standard 3-year/100,000km warranty, while the current 3 + 3 Warranty Offer can provide eligible vehicles with up to 6 years/150,000km of coverage.
To maintain eligibility for the additional coverage, keep up with the recommended maintenance schedule and have the required work completed through the authorised Isuzu network using Genuine Isuzu Parts.
