4WD Tips - Downhill Driving

Davey Hughes has had his fair share of backcountry adventures so tune in for some handy 4WD tips, powered by his Isuzu D-Max!

Today we're going to be running through how to get down those steep hills, remember that it can be hairier than the trip in because you’re committed once you’ve started: it’s rare that you can back up. As always you want to start by getting out of our truck, walking our line and checking for hazards, hidden rocks and fallen logs are the big ones you want to avoid.

Next thing to do is to identify your runout from the downhill, as an easy way out will take the pressure off and probably give you more routes to work with. Another good tip is letting some air out of your tires (down to 20 PSI) for the traction, which is a good option if you can swing it. It's always a good idea to have your Isuzu D-Max is kitted out with Genuine Isuzu Accessories to make sure you've got everything you need for your outdoor adventures.

No we're ready to start, head out in 4WD low with our engine brake on. If you’re in a manual, put it in first and leave the pedals alone: the D-Max will do all the work for you. Take it slow and you'll be down safely in no time!
